Sweet Home Ypsilanti

Our friend Charlie made a couple of big mistakes yesterday. First, he confessed to a fantasy of singing in a classic-rock cover band, which was bad enough. Then, he imagined a scenario in which the band would perform a version of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama,” only it would be reinvented as an homage to our favorite city.

That’s when I made my mistake by taking up the challenge and offering the following verse to Sweet Home Ypsilanti:

“Now the Elbow Room has got the hipsters
And they can drink a Pabst or two
Man, that indie rock is so loud
Ain’t Cross Street Station but it’ll do
    ‘Til half past 2”

Okay, now it’s your turn. Extra credit for anything that includes references to the water tower, the EMU Hurons, the Chick Inn or the cow on top of the Carry Dairy.

Ready? Go.

CLASSIC! Here was my verse:

At U of M they loved Schembechler - boo hoo hoo
Now we all go to EMU.
No, Willow Run does not bother me.
Does South Arbor bother you? Now tell me true.

[Guitar] Sweet - home - Ypsilanti [chorus, etc.]

I heard Ann Arbor sing about us
I heard A2 put us down
Well I hope Big Blue will remember
An Ypsi man don't need them around
Anyhow

Sweet Home Ypsilanti
Where the skies are so blue
Sweet Home Ypsilanti
Lord I'm comin' home to you

Trixie's never one to back down from a challenge...

Well Ypsi Township ain’t the good side
Pit bulls and murders ain’t so fine
Still it’s got the Carry Dairy
Sure do miss that big bovine
it’s cow divine

Sweet Home Ypsilanti
Where the collars are so blue
Sweet Home Ypsilanti
Lord I'm coming home for Corner Brew
