Party pooper edition. Or, if you prefer 'turd in the punchbowl' edition, 'wet blanket' edition perhaps, all mean just one thing; Eastern has a chance to RUIN Ball State's perfect season and Top 20 ranking. Yes, it's a longshot, and Eastern doesn't have much of a history of pulling upsets BUT it's the fact they have a chance on Ball State's home field to gank up their season that makes us happy.
On paper Ball State should win. They average over 460 yards of offense a game (260 through the air and 200 rushing) they're balanced, they have a top flight triggerman in Junior Nate Davis. They have a running back in MiQuale Lewis who will most likely go over 1,000 yards on the season and he also has 13 rushing touchdowns. Lewis has scored a touchdown in every game this season but one.
There's no way Eastern's swiss cheese defense can stop this attack, right? That's why they play the game.
Eastern DID show some moxy in going down to Woodsy Owl country and upsetting Bowling Green at BG earlier this year. Despite a pathetic defensive effort against Akron they were in a position to win at the end but for a bad hop of a blocked field goal. Plus there is the fact that Eastern WILL be up for this game. They realize the chance to really make something out of an otherwise disappointing season. Beating a top 20 team could help the bumps and bruises heal after this season is gone. You always hear the weaker team after some level of upset say 'Nobody believed we could do it but US'. We hope Eastern still believes in themselves.
Noon kickoff from Muncie Indiana.
Look, everything says a Ball State rout and that may well end up being the case but picking a 40-14 would be easy. We hate easy.
