Fred Williams surprised an entire school district by resigning Monday night as superintendent of the Lincoln Consolidated Schools.
The seven school board members unanimously approved Williams' resignation, and then a separation agreement and it was over.
Board President Kim Samuelson told the Ann Arbor News this was Williams' choice and he was not asked to resign.
Williams said he was headed home to Grand Ledge to spend more time with his family. Williams became head of Lincoln Schools on August 1, 2005 and his contract ran until June 30, 2010.

Very strange. He wasn't on the job long at all. I'm sure the entire story will come out eventually.
