Borders gets ready to bring you the store of the future---TOMORROW

That's right fans of books, a closely guarded secret, the Borders Concept store opens tomorrow for all your futuristic shopping needs. The NEW Borders (Ann Arbor's preeminent bookstore) Concept store opens at 9am and is located off of Lohr Rd alongside Kohl's, Best Buy and Linens-N-Things in the Waters Place Shopping Plaza.

The festivities will begin with a ribbon cutting ceremony and then book and video and music fans, get ready to be blown away. Johnny has a mole he's been talking to and this place will be all that and a bag of chips.

The store will have a digital center where people can make custom CDs with the help of Borders staff or all on their own. They can also buy a digital camera there, learn how to turn their digital pics into books or publish their own book. Maybe taking those pictures and researching your family tree suit you, Borders has partnered with Ancestor.com and Shutterfly to help you do just that. All this and much much more.

Borders CEO George Jones has said another dozen or so concept stores will open around America in 2008.

Are ya ready? Can ya stand it?

I love Borders. They really did it up right with the late night Harry Potter events. I can't wait to see what is all in there. I have been out at Best Buy a couple times and wondered what was going on.

Remember when Borders was a cozy independent bookstore with 2 floors and creaky wood stairs and rocking chairs and wasn't part of the new big $ corporations taking over A2? Thank god for Ypsi. Ann Arbor's about as independent as a McDonalds these days. No other businesses can afford to stay open there.

I'm a tech guy and love gadgets so I'm very interested in what it all does. I agree with anonymous #3, it's good press for a good local company.

Anonymous #2, I do know they had a chance to leave and move the HQ a while back but stayed here, which counts for something but on your main point you are absolutely right. Ypsilanti is enjoying a rebirth right now in that period before it gets popular bohemian dirty kinda way with the Brew Pub, local food places getting national recognition, lots of new art in all areas, good local music etc. In five years the local media will be calling Ypsi the new pink but we'll be remembering when it was fun doing it with no money and lotsa know how and our Cool City attitude..
