The City of Ann Arbor is FINALLY cracking down on bikers

And handing out some hefty fines for bikers who break the rules. Good for them. Frankly we're sick and tired of hearing from bikers about how they are ENTITLED to do certain things then run stop signs, red lights and turn any and everywhere.

Now if we can get them off the sidewalks it could be mission complete.

I saw that and will leave the same comment here that I did there.

I find it hillarious that bicyclists are shocked because they "didn't know". Perhaps some of these rocket scientists need to attend a program like Safety Town. You know, where kids that are 5-6 years old learn about pedestrian and bicycle safety - and the rules.

This has to be one of the most funny articles I have read in a long, long time.

Yeah I read it too and they were surprised I think there were ANY rules for them LOL.

Rules?! Courtesies?! But but we're bikers!

Hey Johnny-

I THOUGHT if the biker was on the street, they HAD to follow the traffic rules just as the same a vehicle? if they are blowing off, they deserve to be penalized.

Yes, you are right anonymous. Which is why glimmertwinfan was so amused at the "I had no idea" speeches given by bikers in the A2 News.

They had two excuses really, 'I didn't know' and 'It's the Cars fault'.

Bikers are not above the laws and somehow think they are above questioning on this matter. They SHOULD ALL be riding in the road, but some ride on the sidewalk and bump into me with no apology whatsoever.

They do to pedestrians what they complain about cars doing....

I hope they go after the J-walkers next, State and South U would be a gold mine.

You thought correctly. At least, that is what my 6 and 8 year old sons tell me. When I ride with them they are perfectly aware of what the most common rules are - stopping at signs and intersections is something they are taught very early. And yes, to me it is outrageously funny that an adult, hopefully educated or at least in the process, would be surprised at that, which is what that article seemed to imply. One was quoted as exactly that, "if she would have known". I am still chuckling.
