YCD thinks the cause is CRYSTAL clear here

An unassuming home simply BLOWS UP. Police say an accelerant was involved but won't say what. The resident is taken for psychiatric evaluation.

Say it with us......'suspected' METH LAB

The home was in the 2500 block of Maplewood in Ann Arbor and it blowed up around 9am.

Citizens, if you suspect you have a meth lab in your neighborhood CALL THE POLICE. This is not funny nor amusing (despite the graphic Johnny's about to use to indicate otherwise). The home you save may be your own.

Now we cannot say for SURE it's a meth lab so we'll call it a SUSPECTED meth lab for now.

"It blowed up REAL GOOD"

I'd be interested to see updates on this story. Good catch, YCD.

Telltale signs of a meth lab in you neighborhood include (from what I learned from researching this terrible subject): blacked-out windows, cat litter in odd places, weird spray-painted "art" where you wouldn't expect it, a smell of cat urine/ammonia, propane tanks with the top valve turned blue or green due to its being used to store anhydrous ammonia, soda bottles with plastic tubing attached, antifreeze containers (lots) in the trash, and lots of discarded containers for cold medicines containing ephinephrine. --ypsidixit

Well it's not for SURE but you kinda sorta get the feeling that's what happened UNLESS some goofball was turning on the gas in their house and then lighting the stove.

Have you seen the very frightening ad on TV from the Anti-Drug people? Guy drinking his morning coffee looking out his kitchen window when the neighbor's house blows up into his?

Scary stuff but that's what those ads are made to do....SCARE

A 50 year old woman has been arrested for ARSON in this case but police, AGAIN, are not saying the whats, hows or whys.

Thank you for the update. Haven't seen that ad and looked for it on YouTube unsuccessfully. It does sound pretty frightening.

And remember. If you do suspect a meth lab. DON'T INVESTIGATE IT YOURSELF! No poking around in the trash, no sneaking around the neighbor's back porch, and don't knock on the door. Call the popo. This stuff is nasty and will kill you. A Jackson yokle was arrested in Scio Twp a few months ago trying to siphon anhydrous ammonia from an agricultural supplier's tanks. This bozo wound up in intensive care and I do believe he died soon after. Just breathing this stuff WILL kill you.

Alleged thief hospitalized after being overcome by fumes
A man caught stealing anhydrous ammonia from a Scio Township business Sunday night was in critical condition from inhaling the chemical, authorities said.

Washtenaw County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a theft in progress at the 800 block of South Parker Road and found a man attempting to steal the chemical from a tank located outside the agricultural supply business, Cmdr. Dave Egeler said.

The man dropped a hand-held gas can and fled, leading deputies on a short foot chase before he began complaining of breathing difficulty. Deputies said they smelled a strong chemical scent on the man and called for an ambulance, Egeler said.

The man was and three deputies were taken to the University of Michigan Medical Centers for exposure to the chemical. The deputies were released after brief observation, Egeler said.

Firefighters responded to the scene to asses the threat, but no one else was injured.

Egeler said the man, who is not identified, left the cap off his gas can after pouring the chemical from the tank, leading to the scare.

The investigation was turned over the Livingston and Washtenaw Narcotic Enforcement Team (LAWNET) as Anhydrous Ammonia is a key ingredient used in manufacturing methamphetamine, Egeler said. Methamphetamine is a highly-addictive, illegal drug often produced in homemade laboratories.
