Does anyone else think that Pioneer HS having to forfeit their first two wins is completely ridiculous???

I understand the need for rules
regarding transfer students so schools don't stack their teams with "recruited" players/students. But this is an obvious case of the student not understanding the rules and an honest administrative oversight. I do believe that there should be some sort of punishment handed down to maintain a precedence, but to forfeit both wins!?!? AND there is no appeal process. AND the kid was obviously a non-factor in the game and received little playing time. C'mon. Can a school be fined by the MHSAA? Whatever happened to discretion? I guess I just can't stand the people that hide behind rules and guidelines so that they don't have to make a seemingly difficult decision on their own. They just blame it on "the rules."
I applaud Pioneer HS for taking their lumps and owning up to their mistake. Shouldn't that stand for something?
I feel terrible for that student/player though. He is going to get some serious snuggies these next few weeks. Poor fella.
Pretty silly. Are A2 schools a school of choice? I just wonder. I know of several kids on my block, in Ypsi Township, that go to A2 schools because they used to live in Ann Arbor. I don't think any of these kids are athletes, but if there are several kids on my block, I just wonder how many others there are.
If these families somehow get around the rules of what district they actually live in, I wonder how the A2 taxpayers would feel about it.
hotlunch. YSD completely agrees. Why not, since this is HIGH SCHOOL football, take things on a case by case basis. If a school brought in an illegal ringer, yeah, string 'em up but you're right this WAS a kid who had little impact and it was an honest oversight. That's the problem with living in a black and white world, common sense if often the first victim.
AND going forward, how many other schools will try to HIDE this type of thing seeing what happened to Pioneer? It'll have the exact opposite desired effect.
