UAW/GM strike open thread

Are you a Union member hatin' on the General? Are you working for GM and think the Union decision to strike during negotiations is counterproductive? Just a bystander with something to say?

Bring it!

Now there is 12:15 press conference some stations are saying a tentative agreement has been reached.

No agreement right now that's for sure. The strike continues but I'm just getting a sense it'll be ashort strike as negotiations have not broken off. If they're still talking they're close. If there was an ocean of disagreement between them they'd have broken off talks YCD thinks.

There is so much posturing involved by both sides. The press is just a tool they use, and unfortunately, doesn't yield much to the outsiders.

I have mixed views on the entire thing. But one thing the UAW leader said that has me wondering is that the UAW proposed taking over the retiree pension a couple of years ago, and if they did, GM would currently be saving $1,000/vehicle. Now all of a sudden, GM is pushing for it.

The part that has me interested is that I actually believe this. Dealing with the big 3 I find this absouletely credible - sometimes the money that they waste is so rediculous, that I absolutely believe that they felt because they didn't think of it that they would discount it.

Only time will tell on the duration of this thing. But I seem to remember the newspaper strike was going to be a quick one as well.
