Results as we get 'em

Oakland 3
Toronto 1

All unofficial but it looks like Brenda Stumbo has defeated Ruth Ann Jamnick in Ypsi Township tonight comfortably, and Karen Lovejoy-Roe was out ahead of David Ostrowski in the Clerk's race.

The Ann Arbor News will take it from here (like they were doing anyhow) ...

I have a question. I thought there was a law that said those campaigning must maintain a certain distance away from the polling locations.

I voted yesterday at the Baptist Church on Textile near Stoney Creek Road. Not only were there campaign personnel in the parking lot - they were everywhere. Disrupting vehicles trying to park. They actually had a tent/canopy/tarp set up on the property!

I took my 2 young sons with me. Parking lots are always places where caution must be exercised with kids - especially when they start to get old enough that they don't want to hold your hand anymore - but these people had cars turning and cutting through spaces and lanes all over the place. I was very pissed. There is nothing that any of these clowns can say at the voting station that is going to sway my vote one way or the other.

These people were offering my kids rulers, stickers and all kinds of crap. I feel it is interfering with my civic duty to vote and is also a safety issue. Voter turnout was low; I can only imagine how dangerous this could have been with a high turnout. Something must be done. I don't ever recall in the past the campaigners being right on top of me in the parking lot, just steps away from the entrance to the church.

On another note - everyone I voted for lost. At least I know that my votes probably cancelled a friend of mine with differing views.

Now politicians - get your arses out there and clean up those damn signs!

100 feet I believe is STILL The law. If this was being violated, you SHOULD complain.

Yes, SIGNS UP NOW, I couldn't agree more

I looked it up and found out that 25' is the standard throughout the country. I think 100' faced litigation in one of the Dakotas.

They way I read it was 25' from from "entrance". Now define entrance. Is that property entrance or door entrance? There is a big difference.

And, yes, I have written the Washtenaw Board Of Elections to voice my concerns request legal clarification. I respect campaigners and volunteers who really want to get their point across and believe in what they are fight for. I just think it's too much to be in my personal space in a parking lot with cars buzzing around. Especially when I have my kids.

Next election I think I will take my video recorder just so I can provide visual proof of just how out of control it is/was.

Please do take your recorder.

I'd always thought it was 100 feet. I passed out leaflets for Al Gore in 2000 and was told it was 10 feet...
