Armed teens roving the Ann Arbor night

Amazingly, three teenagers, aged 14-17 were arrested for home invasions and having stolen property in the Platt Road/Champagne Drive area early this morning. A woman arriving home noticed her garage door had been kicked in and police did a search and found nothing. Later a man awoke to find three people in his bedroom and when they realized he was awake they fled into the early morning air. When police caught up with them they found LOADED GUNS and a knife on the utes. A police spokesman said their parents had yet to be contacted as of 7 am.

You better believe we'd notify the parents. We'd haul them into court to and ask them what THEIR problem is. 2:30 am and your 14 year old is running around with loaded weapons breaking into homes? It's our opinion these are not poor misunderstood kids who need a break. Far from that. It sure looks we were one panicked moment from a teenager with a gun from having a dead homeowner in Tree City last night.

Whatever their sentence may be perhaps the parents can help them with their mandated trash pick up along the highways.

My hope is that the little shits snuck out, that the parents did NOT know and that the parents will begin the teen ass-kicking with haste, including grounding for the rest of their natural lives and *especially* allowing the justice system to prosecute them to the full extent of the law. If they do it right the teens will probably PREFER whatever punishment the court delivers.

If, however, the parents are found to have been careless with firearms and lackadaisical about parental care, then I hope they use good sunblock when they join the roadside work detail.

No follow up on this yet but we'll keep checking to see what, if anything the parents were aware of

I'd certainly like to learn more about this story. The paper said the kids were found a quarter mile away carrying "stolen merchandise." I'd like to know what they stole, why, whether it was returned, and whether the homeowner sues the parents for property damage.

Armed burglary is a more serious felony than unarmed burglary, isn't it? Some states have mandatory minimum sentences for armed burglary, says Google. So much for the 17-year-old graduating with his class. This is yet another sad example of one stupid decision possibly ruining years.

Actually the "little shits" you are referring to DID actually sneak out. Their parents didn't know. They would never ever in their right minds even let those kids out past midnight. And this article did forget to mention that they were extremely high, from smoking crack so they really had no idea what they were doing. One of the boys was one of my friends, and he is a good boy, he's had a very hard past and has gone through more then anyone could ever even imagine. I know he's messed up BIG TIME, and he should have a VERY big punishment, but from outsiders looking in, and from this article it makes them look like dirt. They're human beings and if you even knew half the stuff that just ONE of the boys have been through you might actually think differently about this situation. Those boys are delicate individuals, they make mistakes because of their insecurity and I know for a fact they are feeling so much pain right now, and that they would do anything in the world to turn back time.
