Willow Run teachers approve new 4 year contract

Willow Run teachers voted YES to approve a four-year contract with the school district on Wednesday.

Teachers will not get a raise this year, but will receive a 1 percent increase in 2008-09. The bad health plan foisted upon teachers in August was still part of this contract but other HMO and PPO choices were also in the new contract.

It's not perfect but if an 80% teacher vote turnout resulted in 73% for FOR and just 27% voting NO, hopefully the next four years won't be as contentious.

The contract is from 2005 until 2009 so we will only have one year of peace. Thanks for posting info about Willow Run.

Always happy to post on Willow Run. Ypsi's got a lot of good schools, WR is one. No school is perfect, AND they can all improve for free if enough parents would get truly committed. Johnny is from a family of teachers. The biggest complaint and disappointment is the lack of parental COMMITMENT. There are some who are INVOLVED but not COMMITTED.

Lemme explain the difference. The chicken is INVOLVED with your breakfast. The pig is COMMITTED. I know there are a lot of great parents who do what they should but parental committment doesn't cost anything and helps so much.

I hope you were one who was happy with the contract, so at least for a year you can take a breath and not worry about that vitriol.

And THANK YOU for teaching.
