So, YCD wants to know, how ya gonna spend the IRS money?

I mean it's FREE and we'll NEVER EVER have to account for this 100 billion in "vote buying hush money" will we? So how ya gonna blow it?

This never would have happened in a non election year.

A couple of points. Firstly, if they can afford to give it back (which they really can't), why did they ever take it to begin with?

Secondly, you can bet that when tax time April 2009 comes around, we are going to again have to pay income tax on this money. This, to me, is insane because we already paid taxes on it in the first place.

As far as spending it - this year our family budget is tight like many Americans. Orthodontics for my oldest, somewhat unexpected new car purchase, etc., but we were hoping to somehow swing a trip to the Carolina coast this summer. My brother lives in the area and the kids love the beach. Looks like that may now happen where it was questionable before.

Although we won't be spending this money in the great state of Michigan, it definitely will help out and maybe let us relax our spending here locally a little between now and then knowing that "the check will eventually be in the mail".

VERY well said glimmertwinfan.

The extra money WILL be a good thing for many people. My personal worry is that this debt (and we're making it bigger every day) will simply get bigger and bigger and the biggest issue with it is we're borrowing all our money from China and at SOME point they're gonna want some of these TRILLIONS back.

If they really wanna stimulate the economy, let the Bush tax cut from 2001 set to expire in 2009 simply expire. This way, the people with the money to make a HUGE difference WILL but a house or a car or BIG ticket items they can claim this year only as in 2009 they wouldn't get the same tax breaks. It was aimed at them (the richest Americans) anyway, so let's make it work for us all.

I don't normally go off on national issues but this affects everyone so I thought I'd ask.

I'm spending my money on a new iPod. One made in China.

I, too, have been wracking my brain trying to figure out how making our national debt bigger will help.
