An update on yesterday's Espresso Royale Cafe 'get-it-yourself' rant
It is confirmed, Johnny spoke with someone there this morning. They are going to a do-it-yourself style of coffee sales. LAME. I mean Johnny still pays the same amount as he did before but now does all the work. The principle of that is very annoying. So, it's over to Starbucks Monday morning AND Johnny is gonna pick up a bag of coffee for this weekend's home enjoyment NOT from ERC like he has been for some time, no he'll be getting it from Starbucks on his way home today. Good luck with your new business plan ERC, just realize it won't involve Johnny and his 13 bucks a week previously spent at your place.

My goodness, you are full of seething-yuppie java-rage. It's called a recession. Supporting a huge national chain over a small local business because someone won't POUR YOUR COFFEE FOR YOU is short-sighted, petty, mean and childish. How does it feel to be so "privileged?"
Awww, how cute.
If we're in a recession I SHOULD be getting my coffee at Starbucks from the get-go as it's cheaper for a bigger cup. You also FAIL to explain how a recession means they should become self-serve.
Also if the local business wanted to keep customers in a financial time such as this they'd have more interaction with their customers, no? More interaction, more friendly banter, the little things one can do to keep customers that cost nothing.
Making a choice in coffee places makes me PRIVILEGED? LOL. I guess we're ALL privileged in your eyes then since we all make choices each day about where to shop.
You shop where you want to for the reasons you so choose and I'll do the same, luckily I have a blog to piss and moan on....
Privileged = buying coffee already made for you. Must be nice, I can only afford to make mine at home. That's about the recession.
Privileged = throwing a mini-tantrum over something so silly.
Go on with your bad self, Johnny Action Space Case. There's nothing punk about this pout.
Mini tantrum? I don't think so. Just a comment on how not to treat customers, and at no point did I say all customers. I never deign speak for anybody but me. Some may like the new set-up. Cool for them.
Space Case, good one, now get back to drinking your home brew
its just like the Grocery store. BAG your own, pay the same high prices.
I remember years ago when my favorite gas station went self-serve. I remember paying $.25 per gallan for Gulf gas.
Feeling betrayed, I stopped purchasing my gas from that station. It was right up the corner from my home at the time.
But as time went buy, so did all of the full-service gasoline stations. In the end, I was forced, like nearly everyone else, to pump my own gas. I put up a good fight, but in the end, I stand outside in the elements, sometimes freezing. sometimes wet, often mad because at the conclusion of my pumping experience the machine didn't print the receipt, and I need to go inside to ask the clerk for one often upsetting them to no end.
Put up the good fight my fine-talk-in-the-third-person-Johnny. In the end, I hope you find a place that remains the full-service shop in which you crave. But I fear, eventually, there may be none.
It's all in the name of progress. At least, that's what they say.
its funny how companies talk the talk of having GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE, but in the end, there are less cash registers in stores, self service gas, and now Poor Johnny has to put up with the self service coffee line. He was right, their tip jars will be much lighter in the end.
And I ALWAYS, as in EVERY DAY tipped them not just the change back from my order, no, I tipped them 1$ each and every time. They got my coffee, put the heat insulator on it (or whatever those things are called you slide on so you can carry a hot cup of joe) and said something nice or friendly. Now I order, they hand me a cup and point. End of transaction.
I much prefer the other way. It's why I mentioned it....
Johnny is no yuppie, Anonnymouse! Far from it. I have to agree with Johnny - shouldn't a local establishment be trying HARDER to promote a good experience? Maybe they are just following in the tradition of every restaurant downtown eventually hiring the surliest servers they can find. Johnny, you vote with your feet, sir, and don't take any crapola from a lame-o.
I don't know whether Johnny's in A2 or Ypsi more frequently- but from what I hear around town- Ugly Mug, Bombadill's, and Beezy's all pour the coffee for you. I'm pretty sure Wireless Ypsi's available in each location, too...
Bonnie--
I work right downtown A2 which is why I get my coffee there. If I still worked in Ypsi you bet I'd go to Bombadil's or The Ugly Mug. In fact some Sunday mornings I've been known to hike up to The Ugly Mug for some bagels and some fine brewed roast.
Johnny- Maybe give Rendezvous (on South U, so a bit out of the way) or Sweetwaters a shot before going wholly corporate? :)
Bonnie--I may give Sweetwaters a shot Monday, good idea
