City of Ann Arbor to blow things up real good

Ann Arbor City Council has voted to demolish the old downtown Y by spring. By a City Council vote of 9-1, they decided to demolish the building. Mayor John Hieftje said it could be down by February or March. The city will be asking the DDA (Downtown Development Association) to spend the 1$ million to demolish and dispose of the asbestos inside.

Disposing of asbestos is far more expensive in Washtenaw County these days since Monroe County found out where we USED to dump it all for free.

So will A2 still be paying rent for the displaced Y residents?

Since you are on the topic of things *outside" the city of Ypsi... How about the article on today's Mlive.com about the judge dismissing the $240,000 legal fees that the three townships were asking for as a result of their suit against Washtenaw county regarding policing. If my scorecard is right, Ypsi Township, has lost EVERY point and now is left holding a substantial bag for legal fees. The way I see it was a complete waste of taxpayer money. Not one motion was won. The only winner is the lawyers. I also see that they are appealing. They have not won a single argument, yet they are appealing. There comes a point when you have to cut your losses. Speaking of cutting losses, I think it high time that the residents of Ypsi Township cut theirs and replace the entire lot of administrators, and find new legal council. Let the guy running the parks department head up the entire township. Based on meeting minutes he seems like the only one that actually attempts to conserve money and still provides outstanding services to residents. I wanted to email you direct to start a thread on this, but I don't see any way to do via this blog.

Glimmertwinfan, do you have a good link for me to start at? I'm finding just a little on it, and I need more to give it the obvious serious consideration it needs

This is what I read this morning.

However, this has been going on for a long, long time.

Here was the headline this morning:

County not liable for court costs in patrol lawsuit
Judge: Violations unintentional Tuesday, November 20, 2007
