U-M tuition this fall going up 5.6 percent

An incoming Universty of Michigan freshman student from Michigan can expect to pay now upwards of 11K a year on tuition. Graduate students at U-M will be paying 5% more this upcoming year.

Did we mention the 7.1 BILLION dollar endowment the University of Michigan sits on?

At some point in the near future we're gonna have to ask the question: Is an undergrad degree from Michigan worth all that? The knee jerk reaction has always been "Well yes, it's Michigan after all".

We're just not so sure that dog hunts anymore.

Its nice to see that the University wants to INCREASE tuition when they are sitting on all that cash...
Does the word GREED say anything about the school or what???

Yes costs go up but if you won't break into it in THESE economic times, the worst in a generation, when WILL they?

This has been sticking in my craw all day. This amount U-M sits on and yet cuts on employees and raises on students. Let's just suppose, and I realize it's EASY to spend other peoples money, it's more idea than demand.

Nobody raises money like the University of Michigan. Nobody. If that were a degree in fundraising they would be the school to suit up for. Suppose you took the .1 and used it for students and employees just this once. Cut them some kind of "We're all in this together as a world class university" break. And offset costs, and keep staff levels, and a big freeze or drop in tuition even for one year would be such an act of community and university goodwill and, well the kind of thing the 'Leaders and Best'are capable of.

They'd have everyone happy and excited going into a new and unfamiliar football season all on the same page and donors would be so inspired at some point to repay the favor come check writing time.

And THE Ohio State University hasn't done it....yet
