Ron Paul holds court on the U-M Diag

Republican candidate Ron Paul got some big love last night as he gave a speech on the Diag. Paul, a Texas congressman and the most liberal of the GOP candidates, told the crowd of his ideas for defending civil liberties, pulling US troops out of Iraq and a non-interventionist foreign policy. While socially conservative, Paul did take a swipe at the Bush Administration's foreign policy

"And that is, quit all this spending overseas. Wasted money. We are now spending nearly a trillion dollars a year to maintain an empire... We weren't meant to be the policeman of the world."

Paul had come to Ann Arbor after participating in yesterday's GOP candidate debate in Dearborn.

He is absolutely right. "Steer clear of foreign affairs." The founding fathers of this country said it, and the mess we have today is proof.

Paul has some interesting ideas. Many, such as myself, are disgusted with both major parties. There IS a place for liberal views and financial conservancy. Something neither party seems to do very well.

There is one thing worse than a spend and tax government - one that spends and doesn't tax. Does that sound familar?

I do think Paul's worldview is his calling card and what makes him popular. He is VERY conservative on social issues and that doesn't ever seem to get much press.

I do like his worldview, very practical
