The Lebanese food slinging days at La Shish are over. The restaurant chain went out of business Saturday night, leaving some 350 workers at 11 restaurants out in the cold.
According to the Detroit Free Press:
...the Dearborn-based chain, consisting of 11 restaurants and a central food preparation commissary, suffered a 50% drop in revenue after federal agents raided Chahine's homes and businesses in 2005 looking for evidence of a $6.5-million tax evasion scheme.
Federal prosecutors said Chahine sent much of the money to his native Lebanon, where he fled in 2005 to avoid prosecution, and that he had links to Hizballah, which the U.S. State Department has designated as a Lebanese terrorist group.
Johnny is saddened. He ADORED the cornish hens and Arabic coffee there. He's also bummed some of his money MAY have been used for shady purposes.

Lately, representatives from Universal Gas, have been going door-to-door in Ypsilanti trying to get customers to switch to their gas service. Don't do it.
It's a scam as their prices are WAY above what you are paying now. They stand at the door with few answers to your specific questions and only try to confuse the issue and only really want your signature. Once they have that you'll find your gas rates doing nothing but going up and if you wanna opt out from what you have signed it can cost upwards of $250.
Tell them to hit the bricks and THEN make sure to call your neighbors. Help protect them the same way you just protected yourself.
Some things are meant to be sold door-to-door, say girl Scout cookies and Jehovah, not gas power.

Carlos Medlock scored 20 points, Jarred Axon had 16, and Jesse Bunkley had 14 as surging EMU dropped the Cardinals of Ball State 75-64 at the ACC. Ball State took a quick lead after halftime but EMU's defense was just too much.
Unfortunately, EMU lost Sophomore center Justin Dobbins to a leg injury in the first minute of the game. Further proof this EMU squad plays hard, won't quit and comes to the gym to win.
Eastern is at Toledo on Tuesday. EMU leveled their MAC record at 7-7 with this win and improve to 12-15 overall.

YCD would like to pass along condolences
To the family and friends of Leo Felty, the man who was tragically killed in a fall while working on expanding the University of Michigan Museum of Art. There is some added honor in helping expand the art world and opening up minds in viewing such. Sad is sad but when you work on something that helps expand minds and brings joy there IS an added level of honor we think.
Felty is survived by his wife, Pinckney Village Clerk Amy Felty, and two small children.
