And as it turns out his only point of his freshman season. 1 point, made the first free throw, missed the second. This in no way is being mentioned to ever denigrate his point. We're so not piling on. In fact we think it's a perfect example of sticking with it, working hard and in some strange small way, being rewarded. Thats how life works, where small victories are to be savored. We hope Mr Amaeti turns out to be the next Lorenzo Neely or Earl Boykins one day, but today he scored his point and officially joined the fraternity guys like George Gervin, Grant Long, Fred Cofield, and Marcus Kennedy all belong to and that's not too shabby. That's a good club to be a part of.

And when he Googles his stats this summer (we kid we kid) he'll see his name also associated with the greats of Eastern Michigan basketball.

Eastern beat Northern Illinois today at the ACC 82-63. Carlos Medlock dominated the floor with 23 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists. Justin Dobbins hit for 20 and Senior Jesse Bunkley said goodbye to Ypsilanti with 11. Besides Bunkley YCD would also like to give a tip of the cap to #0 Nenad Banjanin, Jarred Axon, and Travis Lewis.

8-8 in the MAC was a pleasant surprise with the injuries, a dismissal and chronic low expectations but EMU doesn't look like an easy out in the MAC Tourney. Go get 'em Eastern!

MDOT to begin closing lanes on M-14 starting tomorrow

OK, here's the story, those traveling into and out of Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti east of US 23 will begin seeing lane closures but NOT during peak travel times. The schedule:

A single lane will be closed in each direction from Ford Road east to Gotfredson Road from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, an announcement from the Michigan Department of Transportation said.

On weekends, closures can be expected from 7 p.m. on Friday to 6 a.m. on Monday.

Bridge work and what not. The project will last into next football season.

A State Title for the River Rats!

That's right aquatic fans, Ann Arbor Huron high school won the Division 1 state swimming championship over Ann Arbor Pioneer who came in second by a score of 279-260. Dan Thurston won a couple state titles and Chris Berloth grabbed one for Huron while Pioneer's Robert Nichols also won one.

This was Ann Arbor Huron's first state title in 20 years so all power and glory to them.

Late night open thread

Both EMU and Michigan are home for their last regular season games tomorrow afternoon. EMU at 2 pm at the ACC and Blue at the Crisler Arena at 3 pm on Senior Day for both. Eastern looks to go .500 in the MAC against Northern Illinois while Michigan is playing for pride and to perhaps cost the Boilermakers a seed or two next Sunday.

3 people wounded in Ypsi Township shooting

Not much real factual info to pass along as Washtenaw County Sheriff's Cmdr. Dave Egeler said "Let's just say not everyone was being totally cooperative".

Two women 19 and 21, one man were shot early this morning about 3:25 am. The women were found sitting on a couch inside a home in the 1300 block of Andrea Avenue, and a man was found a few houses down on a porch. It appears the shots came into the home from the outside. No word on if the man was with the women at the time they were shot. All received non-life threatening injuries.
