Talk about domination; Ann Arbor Pioneer 'gurls' win their NINTH straight swimming championship

Pioneer High School won its ninth straight state title with 349.5 points at the Jones Natatorium on the campus of Eastern Michigan University. NINE, that's incredible. Michigan bound Ashley Cohagen captured repeat titles in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke.

The level of high school swimming in this area is incredible as Ann Arbor Huron finished SECOND to the Pioneers.

Congrats Pioneer, job WELL done (again).

As for the Huron gurls, they also went to the state title game in field hockey but came up short.

Not bad, the local gals seem to dominate at sports, we're very proud of all of you.

Washtenaw County football rankings for week 1

Time now for the Ypsi City Desk Sports Amalgamated Poll, ranking the best football teams in Washtenaw County

1) Eastern Michigan
2) Chelsea Bulldogs
3) Ann Arbor Pioneer
4) Michigan

EMU with a huge 52-0 victory over Indiana State on Thursday, coupled with Michigan's uninspiring loss to Utah keep Eastern #1 this week while Michigan drops from #2 in our preseason rankings to #4.

Pioneer High School decides to impose cameras in and around the school

Ann Arbor Pioneer High School HAS decided to post cameras in and around the school at a cost of $80,000.

OK Pioneer, it's your call but next time you find yourselves short on money, DO NOT come back to the community hat in hand. 80 large can buy a lot of books and school supplies and pay a lot of bills.

You've made your choice, we hope you're happy with it, cause we're not. We don't think this'll stop crime or incident one, you see crime all the time where cameras are present, the local and national nightly news would go off the air if they couldn't use security video for stories.

It's a fact.

Pioneer student assaulted, iPod taken, Cameras STILL a bad idea

A student at Pioneer High School was reportedly robbed on Friday in a Pioneer hallway and reported it to police yesterday that his iPod was stolen and other threats were made. He said he recognized one of his attackers as a fellow student.

So, what would cameras have stopped? Nothing. The kid can identify the fellow student so again, cameras not needed.

YCD supports Ann Arbor Pioneer students in fight against cameras

Not JUST cameras, cameras EVERYWHERE. $80,000 worth of cameras in and around the high school. The Ann Arbor Pioneer students, bless them, have decided they do not want invasive cameras everywhere and have, along with their parents and with help from the ACLU, are trying to stop Ann Arbor School Superintendent Todd Roberts from making the high school into more of a prisoner camp. Of course the usual meme is being trotted out by some school officials, security reasons, theft deterrant yada yada yada. All words. Nothing more.

YCD asks, we have cameras all over the place and yet the crime rate is way UP. These cameras will not stop fights or theft or crimes, they don't in regular society. Crime does not drop when cameras are present. Jesus, look at the news, almost every night somebody is seen committing a crime on a store or convenience store video camera. It didn't stop anything.

No, you Ann Arbor Pioneer kids hold firm. Johnny would not have stood for this kind of thing when he went to school, school should not be run like Jackson Prison. I mean we have the head count and the feeding part down, do we really NEED (and the key question here is do we NEED these cameras) to go the Full Jail Monty with cameras?

Also kids, if they DO impose these cameras on you, maybe a school class project on the power of magnets in the hallways is needed, you know, big invasive magnets that screw up video feeds.
