A 20 year old EMU student is walking near Emmet and Washtenaw, he is sucker punched by a coward while his loser associates hold the victim down while the puncher rifles through his pockets. When the idiots leave, the victim wisely calls 911. While police are assisting the victim, EMU police are contacted that a student is FOLLOWING THE SUSPECT on campus and reporting his position via cell phone.
FANTASTIC stuff. The attacker was arrested and sits in jail this morning, where he belongs, because a wise and brave student followed the criminal and made the call. We'd like to nominate this person as YCD's Citizen of the Week and understand why they need to remain anonymous.
Good stuff indeed. See what YOU can do to stop crime? Everyone has a cell phone these days. Take a cell phone picture or call police when you see this kind of thing going on.
It's YOUR campus

A concealed weapons permit is yet another option. In this case, it would save $45 per year to house each of these a$$holes in prison as well as the cost of trial.
I never was a fan of the NRA's "Armed Citizen". But the more I read things like this the more I am.
Give all incoming Freshmen a Taser. It should keep a few of them safe but the real payoff would be in drunken Youtube moments as they use them on each other...
Until criminals have something to fear, crime will not decrease.
Currently, the only *real* deterrent is a criminal justice system that more often times than not, slaps criminals on the wrist and sets them on their way. It is a joke to a criminal.
If idiots like this had to stop and think, is my victim going to fight me? Shoot me? Make my crime difficult? Until a criminal is faced with these questions, nothing will change.
Taser. Sounds fun. What happens if a person gets tased while in water? Now that could be a YouTube video!
As a parent and a lover of Ypsi, I'm torn between throwing my fist in the air for the vigilante and shaking my head saying, "Are you crazy?! You followed him?"
One thing's for sure. Every college student should carry a concealed weapon. Whoo-boy would that make everything safer.
What???
Let's see. Old enough to carry an M16 in Iraq. Old enough to vote. Old enough to take a concealed weapons class and get a legal permit.
I wonder what the parents of the slaughtered college kids in Virginia have to say.
Choose to be a victim. That will help deter crime. Is that how they do it in Portugal?
I know we disagree on guns glimmertwinfan, but still I dunno about guns available at a beer pong game or frat party. The amount of alcohol on college campuses would lead me not to support arming students.
Tasers on the other hand....
I understand and see your view. My view is that I feel it is ok to be "armed". It doesn't have to be a gun, although we all know, that could definitely stop a criminal. I never used to feel this way.
But anything that can be done to deter a punk criminal, I'm all for. Criminals need to be afraid of victims, just like victims are afraid of criminals. They certainly aren't afraid of the law, are they?
As a EMU female student that has gone through extensive self defense training, I firmly believe that (regardless of gender) sometimes carrying a weapon can be more dangerous. Most often, attackers use an element of surprise, and by the time you can get your hands on a weapon it can be taken away from you and used against you.
anonymous, the old 12 foot rule, correct?
The 12 foot rule is that you can get to an attacker if you are within 12 feet of them before they would have time to pull and aim their weapon
